Abstract

Amyda cartilaginea is a species of softshell turtle commonly found in rivers and swamps. However, data on its population and distribution in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), especially in Sidorejo Village, Kulon Progo, remain limited. This research aimed to understand the population and distribution of Amyda cartilaginea in the two main rivers of Sidorejo Village, which are Kedung Ingas River and Sidorejo River. Research was done from December 2024 to June 2025 using combination of VES (Visual Encounter Survey) with Time-constrained Search method. Sampling was done twice day and night. Analysis using QGIS, NNI and density formula. The population of Amyda cartilaginea was higher in the Kedung Ingas River compare to Sidorejo River. The distribution of Amyda cartilaginea was evenly distributed on the upstream to midstream part of both rivers.
