This study was motivated by the low level of students’ critical thinking skills on the topic of changes in the state of matter in fourth grade at UPTD SD Inpres Kuanino 2 Kupang City. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on improving students’ critical thinking skills. This study used a quantitative approach with an experimental method. The subjects were fourth-grade students who were taught using the PBL model. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments of critical thinking skills. The data were analyzed using statistical tests to determine differences in learning outcomes. The results showed that there was an improvement in students’ critical thinking skills after the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning model has a significant effect on improving students’ critical thinking skills on the topic of changes in the state of matter.
