<![CDATA[Defending behavior toward victims of bullying is an important prosocial response that can be performed by bystanders to assist victims and reduce the continuation of bullying in schools. This study aimed to examine the item validity and internal consistency reliability of the Indonesian-adapted version of the Defending Behavior Scale among junior high school adolescents. This study employed a quantitative design involving instrument validity and reliability testing. The respondents consisted of 80 non-boarding junior high school adolescents in Indonesia who had experience witnessing bullying. The main instrument tested was the Defending Behavior Scale, which consists of 18 items and four dimensions: reporting to authority, comforting the victim, aggressive defending, and solution-focused defending. Item validity was tested using Pearson Product-Moment correlation, while internal consistency reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha. The results showed that all items had calculated r values greater than the critical r value and significance values below 0.05; therefore, all items were declared valid. The reliability test showed a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.900, indicating that the instrument had excellent internal consistency. Thus, the Indonesian-adapted version of the Defending Behavior Scale can be used as an initial instrument to measure defending behavior toward victims of bullying among junior high school adolescents.]]>
