This study aims to determine the employment rate of graduates and the alignment between their educational background and their field of work in the Device Engineering Department at PT Epson Batam. A tracer study was conducted to evaluate the relevance of higher education to the needs of the industrial sector. The study employed a qualitative approach using the case study method.Data was collected through unstructured interviews, observations, and documentation involving employees and relevant parties in the department. The research findings indicate that the majority of employees in the Device Engineering Department have an educational background in engineering, specifically Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, which is relevant to their respective job roles. The alignment of one’s field of study with their job has proven to be a key factor in improving graduates’ chances of entering the workforce. Additionally, educational attainment influences job status and position, with college graduates typically holding staff-level to supervisory roles, while high school and vocational school graduates are more likely to be in operator or non-staff positions. Other findings indicate that graduates with strong technical competencies tend to experience relatively short waiting periods before securing employment after graduation, reflecting the high demand within industry for technically skilled workers. Overall, the level of graduate employability within this department can be considered favorable, demonstrating a clear alignment between the competencies acquired during higher education and the needs of the company. Therefore, higher education institutions are expected to continuously enhance curriculum quality and strengthen collaboration with industry to ensure that graduates are better prepared and remain competitive in the labor market.
