<![CDATA[Background: Beyond Use Date (BUD) is the recommended period for using sterile pharmaceutical preparations after the primary packaging has been opened. Limited patient knowledge regarding BUD may increase the risk of contamination, reduce therapeutic effectiveness, and compromise patient safety, particularly in ophthalmic preparations. Purpose: To determine the level of patient knowledge regarding Beyond Use Date (BUD) of eye drops and to analyze its relationship with respondent characteristics. Method: A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted among 244 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was performed to describe respondent characteristics and knowledge level, while Spearman’s Rank correlation test wa used to examine the relationship between respondent characteristics and knowledge level with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: The majority of respondents fell into the fair knowledge category (51.2%). Significant associations were found between knowledge level and age (p=0.001), education level (p=0.001), occupation (p=0.001), source of information (p=0.001), and history of eye drop use (p=0.001). Conversely, gender did not show a significant association with the respondents' knowledge level (p=0.081). Conclusion: Most respondents demonstrated a moderate level of knowledge regarding Beyond Use Date of eye drops. Educational level, age, occupation, information source, and previous experience using eye drops were significantly associated with knowledge level, indicating the importance of continuous pharmaceutical education to improve safe medication use.
