Hypertension is a condition in which systolic blood pressure is ≥140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is ≥90 mmHg. Hypertension is often accompanied by anxiety, anxiety is an unpleasant emotion that can directly affect the psychological and physiological well-being of people with hypertension. Anxiety can disrupt a person’s sleep quality, such as difficulty falling asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, or feeling unrested after waking up. Anxiety can disrupt sleep quality through sympathetic nervous system activity and HPA axis (Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal) activity. This study aims to examine the relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality in patients with hypertension at the Karangmalang Community Health Center in Sragen. A quantitative correlation method with a cross-sectional approach was used in this study. The sample consisted of 64 participants selected using accidental sampling. The research instruments used included the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale questionnaire and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire. Data analysis in this study utilized the Spearman rank test. The majority of respondents experienced mild anxiety (40 respondents, or 62.5%) and poor sleep quality (57 respondents, or 89.1%). The results of the statistical analysis indicate a significant association between anxiety levels and sleep quality in hypertensive patients at the Karangmalang Community Health Center in Sragen (p-value 0.032), with a Spearman correlation coefficient (r) = 0.269. There is an association between anxiety levels and sleep quality in hypertensive patients. Promotion and prevention efforts through education need to be enhanced regarding the importance of anxiety management and good sleep patterns in these patients.
