Abstract

Nutritional intake in pregnant women significantly affects fetal development. Body Mass Index (BMI) serves as an indicator of maternal nutritional status and forms the basis for gestational weight gain recommendations. This study aimed to describe gestational weight gain according to BMI standards in the working area of Jak Luay Village Primary Clinic, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan Province. An observational descriptive study was conducted from November 1 to 13, 2024. A total of 208 pregnant women were selected using a total sampling technique. Secondary data were collected from medical records using structured data sheets and processed through editing, coding, and tabulating stages. The results revealed that 73 pregnant women (35.0%) achieved gestational weight gain within BMI standards, 104 (50.0%) gained less than the standard, and 31 (15.0%) gained more than the standard. This study concludes that the majority of pregnant women had gestational weight gain below BMI standards, which was influenced by maternal age, educational level, employment status, and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC).
