This study aims to answer several questions. First, how does Buya Hamka interpret the Qur’anic verses related to khauf (fear)? Second, how is khauf implemented from Buya Hamka’s perspective in Tafsir Al-Azhar? The data collection technique employed in this study is document analysis. The data were subsequently analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method with a deductive approach, namely by examining the verses concerning khauf and relating them to the feelings of individuals experiencing anxiety or fear. The findings of this study conclude that, according to Hamka, khauf refers to a feeling of fear arising from the awareness of Allah’s punishment, torment, and wrath. Based on the analysis, khauf can be formulated into two types: positive khauf and negative khauf. The problem that arises is that some individuals experience both positive and negative forms of fear. Positive khauf is a feeling of fear that encourages a person to exercise caution when making decisions and taking actions. Meanwhile, negative khauf is a form of fear that can be considered a spiritual or psychological illness. Such fear may negatively affect an individual’s personality and psychological well-being. Based on the findings above, it is expected that various parties will understand that khauf has two forms, enabling individuals to appropriately position and manage their sense of khauf according to its proper context
