Abstract

Abstract The Islamic religion is built on three pillars that strengthen each other, namely the pillar of Iman, the pillar of Islam and the pillar of Ihsan. To strengthen the pillars of Iman, in this case the set of knowledge that must be studied is called the science of monotheism (tauhid), which includes the six pillars of Iman. To strengthen the pillars of Islam, in this case the set of knowledge that must be studied is called sharia science which includes the five pillars of Islam. Meanwhile, to strengthen the pillars of Ihsan, the set of knowledge studied is called Sufism. If the first two pillars (Iman and Islam) are final as contained in the six pillars of Iman and the five pillars of Islam, then this is not the case with the concept of ihsan which in theory the Prophet Muhammad explained ihsan with "worship Allah as if you could see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then indeed He sees you." The ihsan theory, which tends to prioritize the "taste" factor, has received very diverse meanings and responses. For this reason, along with the development of the Sufism era, it experienced a historical phase that changed and developed from taste to taste and from time to time.
