Research has been conducted to determine the chemical functional groups, chemical composition, and antioxidant properties of melinjo seeds before and after gamma irradiation by Cs-137. This study utilized a Cs-137 radiation source at a distance of 200 cm with varying control doses (0 mGy), 1 mGy (0.2 hours), 2.5 mGy (0.4 hours), and 5 mGy (0.9 hours). Characterization methods included FTIR for analyzing chemical functional groups, SEM-EDX for analyzing the surface of melinjo seeds, and chemical composition analysis after gamma irradiation with Cs-147. Antioxidant testing used the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method and a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 516 nm. Different gamma radiation doses from Cs can cause changes in the chemical structure of melinjo seeds, as evidenced by changes in transmission intensity at different wavelengths. This indicates changes in functional groups such as (O-H), (C=C), and (C-H), with the highest dose (5 mGy) having a significant impact on structural changes due to Cs-137 radiation exposure. Gamma irradiation exposure at a dose of 5 mGy on melinjo seed powder can be seen in the carbon (C) element, which increases from 34.35% to 37.95%, while other elements (O, K, S, P, Si) tend to decrease, thereby affecting the surface structure of the material in melinjo seed powder. The antioxidant activity test results before and after Cs-137 gamma irradiation were distributed as follows: (0 mGy) 0.1086%, (1 mGy) 0.2074%, (2.5 mGy), (5 mGy) 0.1544%, (5 mGy) 0.1232%. The antioxidant properties after irradiation at low doses showed an increase in IC50 values, while at high doses, there was a decrease in IC50 values, thereby reducing the antioxidant potential of melinjo seeds
