This study was motivated by the assignment of the red channel to imported furniture, which requires document and physical inspection before the issuance of the Goods Release Approval Letter (Surat Persetujuan Pengeluaran Barang – SPPB), delaying customs clearance and increasing logistics costs. This study analyzes the red channel determination process for furniture imports handled by PT Jasco Logistics Surabaya, identifies obstacles and assesses their impact on import efficiency. A descriptive qualitative method was employed. Data were collected through observations, interviews with operational and Export Import (Exim) staff, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, comprising data collection, condensation, display, and conclusion verification. The findings show that red channel determination is based on the Directorate General of Customs and Excise risk management system through the CEISA Service Computer System (SKP), considering the importer's profile, commodity characteristics, and random selection mechanisms. The handling process involves receiving import documents, preparing the Import Declaration (Pemberitahuan Impor Barang – PIB), red channel assignment, physical inspection, and customs clearance. Key obstacles include lengthy physical inspections, queues in the behandle area, container transfers to the Customs Temporary Storage Facility (Tempat Penimbunan Pabean – PLP), and issuance of Customs Tariff and/or Customs Value Assessment Letters (Surat Penetapan Tarif dan/atau Nilai Pabean – SPTNP). These obstacles cause cargo release delays, increased demurrage and warehouse rental costs, and reduced operational efficiency. The study concludes that stronger stakeholder coordination and greater accuracy in customs document preparation are essential for supporting a smoother and more efficient import process.
