Abstract

Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) among vocational high school students in Machining Engineering remains a serious problem due to the high rate of workplace accidents in workshops. This study aims to examine the relationship between risk perception and self-efficacy toward PPE use compliance in vocational high school students of Machining Engineering. This study employed a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 95 students from grades X and XI taken using purposive sampling technique from a total population of 120 students. The research instruments were three four-point Likert scale questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation test, and multiple linear regression with SPSS version 26. The results showed that risk perception had a positive and significant relationship with PPE compliance (r = 0.578, p < 0.01), self-efficacy also had a positive and significant relationship with PPE compliance (r = 0.645, p < 0.01), and together both variables contributed 54.3% (R² = 0.543, p < 0.001) to PPE compliance. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the students' risk perception and self-efficacy, the higher their compliance in using PPE during workshop practice. Recommendations are addressed to teachers and workshop instructors to integrate hazard simulations and repeated PPE use exercises into learning.
