<![CDATA[The concepts of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah (SAMAWA) constitute important objectives of marriage within Islamic family law. However, SAMAWA tends to be understood primarily as a normative-theological ideal, while its translation into relational ethics between husbands and wives has received insufficient attention. This study aims to reconstruct the concept of SAMAWA through Taha Abdurrahman’s I’timaniyya paradigm and formulate it as a framework of relational ethics in Islamic marriage. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research through normative and conceptual analysis. The sources include Qur’an Surah al-Rum (30): 21, exegetical literature and studies on SAMAWA, Taha Abdurrahman’s works on the I’timaniyya paradigm, and relevant previous studies. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis by comparing the conceptualization of SAMAWA in Islamic family law with the ethical principles of I’timaniyya. The findings indicate that the I’timaniyya paradigm enables SAMAWA to be reconstructed from an ideal objective of marriage into a relational ethic grounded in amanah (trust), moral responsibility, and ethical reciprocity. Sakinah is understood as relational tranquility and security, mawaddah as an ethical commitment to nurturing the relationship, and rahmah as the practice of caring for one’s spouse. This reconstruction expands the understanding of SAMAWA from a normative dimension toward relational practice without abandoning its theological foundation. The findings contribute to the development of Islamic family law, as well as premarital education and family counseling, although their practical application still requires empirical testing.]]>
