At Pondok Pesantren Al Baqiyatush Shalihat, Tanjung Jabung Barat, competition is influenced not only by educational quality and programs but also by socioeconomic conditions and community preferences. This study aims to analyze the factors causing educational marketing competition and the leader’s strategies in addressing it. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed through data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was examined through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal four major factors causing competition: the radius or distance between educational institutions, community economic conditions, parental dominance in educational decision-making, and social status. The pesantren leader addresses competition through two strategic approaches. First, Distinctive Competence, developed through an innovative curriculum, superior educational technology, qualified educators, and modern supporting facilities. Second, Competitive Advantage, implemented through Cost Leadership by providing affordable education, Differentiation Strategy through the integration of formal education, pesantren education, and Islamic programs, and Focus Strategy targeting a niche market seeking Islamic education based on pesantren values.
