Objective: This study aims to determine the use of audio-visual media integrated with local wisdom in improving the critical thinking abilities of fourth-grade students on waste management topics at SD Negeri 12 Langsa. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 40 students, including 20 students in the experimental class and 20 students in the control class. Data were collected through essay tests in the form of pretests and posttests. The research instruments met validity and reliability requirements. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, N-Gain, and Independent Sample T-Test tests. Results: The initial critical thinking abilities of the two groups did not differ significantly. After the treatment, the improvement in critical thinking abilities in the experimental class was higher than that in the control class. The results of the Independent Sample T-Test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) < 0.05, indicating that Ha was accepted. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in integrating local wisdom into audio-visual media to create contextual, engaging, and meaningful waste management learning while encouraging students to think critically in understanding and solving environmental problem.
