Abstract

Background: Aging is associated with physiological changes that affect nutritional status and skin health, resulting in reduced quality of life among older adults. Aging skin becomes thinner, drier, and more susceptible to irritation and infection due to decreased barrier function. Inadequate nutritional intake further accelerates skin aging and increases the risk of health problems. Health education is an effective health promotion strategy to improve older adults' knowledge regarding nutrition and skin care. Objective: This community service program aimed to improve older adults' knowledge regarding nutrition and skin health through participatory health education. Methods: The program was conducted at Indonesia Ramah Lansia (IRL), Bandung City, using interactive lectures, group discussions, PowerPoint presentations, printed leaflets, and pre-test–post-test evaluation. A total of 48 older adults participated, while knowledge improvement was analyzed among 22 participants who completed both assessments. Participant satisfaction with the educational program was also evaluated. Results: The mean knowledge score significantly increased from 3.59 before the intervention to 4.91 after the education session (p=0.001). All participants reported gaining new knowledge (100%). Furthermore, 95.5% considered the topic highly relevant, 90.9% agreed that the materials matched their needs, and 81.8% stated that the educational materials were easy to understand
