Abstract

This research contributes to language teaching, particularly by broadening students' understanding of hyperbole of totality in protein texts. The primary theory employed adopts the perspectives of Musolff (2022); Fuoli & Ford (2025). This research was conducted at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The data collection technique was carried out by giving the task of writing protein text and distributing questionnaires to 128 respondents. The research data consisted of primary and secondary data. The primary data consisted of student-generated protein text documentation, while the secondary data consisted of a questionnaire administered via Google Forms. The data were analyzed qualitatively and described descriptively using content analysis that included hyperbole of totality. The results of the study show that the hyperbole of  totality of protein text based on primary data can be in the form of verb markers and noun markers. Verb markers are more dominant than noun markers. Verb markers are: “mengubah” (change) ,”memperbaiki” (repair),  “tidak bergeser” (unshifted),  “mengguncang” (shake), and “menghancurkan” (destroy). Meanwhile, the noun marker is “berjuta-juta sel” (millions of cells). Furthermore, based on secondary data, only 18 people (14.1%) were very good at understanding hyperbole and only 25 people (19.5%) were very good at recognizing sentences containing hyperbole elements.
