Abstract

The low level of English literacy skills, particularly reading and writing skills, remains a challenge in elementary school learning because students still experience difficulties in understanding vocabulary, simple texts, and constructing appropriate sentences. This condition is influenced by the use of learning media that are not yet fully interactive, contextual, and capable of facilitating students’ active involvement in the learning process. This study aims to develop an Augmented Reality-assisted Student Worksheet (LKPD) to improve elementary school students’ English reading and writing skills. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. The research subjects consisted of material experts, media experts, one fifth-grade teacher, and 16 fifth-grade students as trial subjects. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and tests using validation instruments, user response instruments, and reading and writing ability tests. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis, prerequisite tests, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the Augmented Reality-assisted Student Worksheet met the feasibility criteria based on expert evaluations and obtained positive responses from users. Therefore, the Augmented Reality-assisted Student Worksheet is feasible to be used as an innovative learning medium to support the improvement of English literacy among elementary school students. This study implies the development of technology-based learning media that are more interactive, contextual, and appropriate to the characteristics of elementary school students.
