Abstract

Muhadhoroh is a developmental activity that provides students with an opportunity to practice public speaking while delivering religious material. This study aims to analyze the implementation of muhadhoroh activities among students at the Nurul Iman Islamic Boarding School in Ulu Gedong Village, the forms of guidance provided by instructors, the benefits of the activity on students’ confidence and speaking skills, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. There were nine informants, consisting of the boarding school director, the muhadhoroh activity supervisor, and seven students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed thematically through data organization, coding, theme grouping, interpretation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that muhadhoroh is conducted on a scheduled basis with rotating roles, including emcee, Quran recitation, speeches or lectures, and other supporting activities. Instructors play a role in providing guidance before performances, monitoring performances, conducting evaluations, and offering motivation. Repeated performance experiences help students become bolder, more confident, better able to prepare material, and more accustomed to communicating in public. However, implementation still faces challenges such as nervousness, shyness, reliance on scripts, difficulty remembering material, and differences in ability among students. Thus, muhadhoroh can be understood as an experience-based educational practice that has the potential to strengthen students’ communication skills and readiness for da’wah, with its effectiveness heavily influenced by the consistency of practice and the quality of guidance.
