Nikal mining activities carried out in Indonesia damage the environment to the worst level. On the other hand, the high greenhouse effect also causes serious problems for the environment. This research aims to analyze and determine the balance of nickel downstreaming in Indonesia. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with data collection through literature study. The research results show that nickel mining, with the ultimate aim of reducing carbon emissions from electric vehicle batteries, must be carried out without causing new, fatal problems for the environment. One way is to enforce environmental laws as fairly as possible. In an effort to harmonize environmental sustainability and policies on the use of electric vehicles, massive public participation is needed to create balance in the running of government, as well as community participation around the mining environment to formulate CSR provision. Apart from that, the government needs to study nickel processing systems in other countries such as Australia, Canada and New Caledonia. The novelty of this research is that it presents two discussions simultaneously between economics and environmental sustainability, as well as a juridical review. For further research, methods can be developed to obtain more comprehensive results.
