Abstract

The pursuit of a better education in line with one’s aspirations is one of the main factors driving students’ decisions to migrate to continue their education outside their home region. Migrant students may face various challenges, such as adapting to a new environment and adjusting to school life. In such situations, resilience is a key quality that students need to face difficulties with fortitude. One protective factor that enhances resilience is the role of a father. This study aims to examine whether father involvement is a significant predictor of the resilience of students living away from home. The study was conducted at SMKN 8 Surakarta, one of the schools attended by many migrant students. Purposive sampling was used. A total of 132 students living away from home completed the data collection questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of the CYRM-R Plus Spirituality and Religiosity scale to measure resilience and the Father Involvement Scale to measure father involvement. Data was analyzed using simple linear regression. The results suggested that father involvement and resilience have a significant positive relationship (p = 0.000, p < 0.05) classified as a strong correlation (r = 0.609), with father involvement contributing 37.1% to the resilience of migrant students. This indicates that fathers play a significant role in the development of resilience among migrant students at SMKN 8 Surakarta.
