Character education is an essential part of elementary education because learning should develop not only academic achievement but also students’ attitudes and behavior. This study aimed to describe the implementation of character education in thematic learning for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Kelapa Dua 05 Pagi, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, and identify obstacles and efforts to overcome them. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach conducted from October to December 2025. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, structured non-participant observations, and documentation. Data were analyzed through data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that character education was implemented through lesson planning, classroom activities, teacher modeling, habituation, assignments, and appreciation of students’ achievements. The character values developed included religiosity, honesty, tolerance, discipline, curiosity, environmental care, social care, and responsibility. The main obstacles were limited learning media, limited variation in teaching methods, time constraints in assessing students’ attitudes, and inconsistent character support at home. Teachers addressed these obstacles through learning adaptations, motivation, appreciation, behavior monitoring, and communication with parents. The study concludes that character education can be strengthened through consistent teacher modeling, varied learning strategies, and school-family collaboration.
