The development of global furniture trends has increased public interest inScandinavian furniture design, particularly among Indonesian millennials whoprioritize aesthetics, simplicity, and functionality in interior products. Carl Hansen& Son is recognized as one of the leading Scandinavian furniture manufacturers,known for its minimalist and timeless chair designs. However, differences incultural preferences, lifestyle, and ergonomic needs indicate the necessity ofadapting Scandinavian furniture characteristics to Indonesian users. This studyanalyzes the design preferences of Indonesian millennials toward Carl Hansen &Son chair products and develops design recommendations based on the findings.The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach supported byquantitative questionnaire data collected from 50 respondents aged 22–40 years,examining preferences regarding chair form, material, color, finishing, andfunctionality. The results indicate that Indonesian millennials prefer simple andmodern forms, natural wood materials, neutral colors, and multifunctionalfurniture concepts that support contemporary urban lifestyles. Based on thesefindings, the study proposes several chair design alternatives that combineScandinavian design principles with the preferences and characteristics ofIndonesian users. The research contributes to the development of adaptivefurniture design strategies for the Indonesian market while maintaining the designidentity of Scandinavian modern furniture.
