The quality of crude palm oil (CPO) is an important factor affecting the success of the refinery process, particularly during bleaching. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of CPO quality with different Deterioration of Bleachability Index (DOBI) values on the quality of refined bleached deodorized palm oil (RBDPO) at various bleaching earth dosages. Two CPO samples with DOBI values of 2.67 and 0.87 were used, while bleaching earth concentrations were varied at 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5%. The observed parameters included carotene content, percentage of carotene reduction, absorbance value as an indicator of oil clarity, peroxide value, and percentage of peroxide value reduction. The results showed that increasing the bleaching earth dosage improved bleaching effectiveness, as indicated by decreases in carotene content, absorbance, and peroxide value in both CPO samples. CPO with a DOBI value of 2.67 exhibited greater reductions in carotene, absorbance, and peroxide value than CPO with a DOBI value of 0.87. These findings indicate that the initial quality of CPO significantly influences bleaching efficiency and the quality of refinery products.
