This study aimed to determine the effect of various growing media on the growth and production of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) in a hydroponic system. The study used several types of growing media, namely rockwool, cocopeat, hydrogel, oil palm empty fruit bunches, rice husk charcoal, and sand. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, fresh weight per treatment, economic harvest weight, and root length. The results of the analysis of variance showed that different growing media had no significant effect on the number of leaves, stem diameter, fresh weight, economic harvest weight, and root length of lettuce plants. However, the plant height parameter showed a highly significant effect at 20, 25, and 30 days after planting (DAP). Descriptively, rockwool as the control medium showed the highest growth and production, while organic media such as cocopeat, oil palm empty fruit bunches, and rice husk charcoal were also able to support plant growth well. Overall, all tested growing media can be used as alternative media in hydroponic lettuce cultivation because they are able to support plant growth and production relatively equally.
