This study investigates the effect of competence and organizational culture on employee performance with employee engagement as an intervening variable at PT Pegadaian in Soppeng Regency. The research is grounded in the increasing importance of human resource quality in improving organizational performance in a competitive environment. A quantitative approach with a causal associative design was applied. The population consisted of 125 employees, and all were selected as respondents using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through structured questionnaires using a Likert scale and analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS). The findings reveal that competence and organizational culture have a positive and significant impact on employee performance, both directly and indirectly. Furthermore, competence and organizational culture significantly influence employee engagement, which in turn enhances employee performance. Employee engagement also acts as a mediating variable that strengthens the relationship between competence, organizational culture, and performance. These results imply that organizations need to focus not only on improving employee competencies but also on strengthening organizational culture and fostering employee engagement to achieve optimal performance. Keywords: competence; employee engagement; employee performance; mediation; organizational culture.
