This study compares human and AI translations of phraseological units in David Nicholls’ novel One Day. It examines how idioms and metaphors are rendered, focusing on stylistic nuance and cultural meaning. The results show that human translators prioritize naturalness, pragmatic adaptation, and emotional depth, while AI often produces literal translations that may lose expressive and cultural resonance. The study concludes that although AI improves efficiency, human intervention remains essential for ensuring cultural accuracy and interpretive depth in literary translation.
