The study evaluates Eucalyptus citriodora essential oil (EO) as an eco-friendly alternative to chemical disinfectants for treating wastewater from agro-food and domestic sources. It demonstrates the oil's antimicrobial effectiveness against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, achieving bacterial growth inhibition at low concentrations. While less potent than chlorine in total microbial elimination, the EO presents fewer environmental and health risks. The study concludes that EO is a viable option for sustainable wastewater disinfection and encourages further research into its applications.
