Islamic Religious Education (IRE) carries a strategic responsibility in integrating spiritual values with intellectual demands in the era of disruption. This article aims to deeply analyze the philosophical and operational foundations of IRE through three main pillars: its nature, sources, and scope within the perspective of Islamic scholarship. Using a literature review approach, this paper formulates the nature of IRE into four fundamental dimensions: tarbiyah, ta’lim, ta’dib, and tadris. Furthermore, the sources of IRE scholarship are classified into two main categories: prescriptive sources which are normative-ideal (such as the Qur'an and Hadith) and descriptive sources which are operational-scientific (such as psychology and science-technology). The scope of IRE is mapped systemically, covering objectives, educators, learners, curriculum, methods, and evaluation. The study confirms that the success of IRE depends on the harmonious integration between static revelation sources and dynamic scientific methodologies to realize the profile of insan kamil (the perfect human) who possesses a sense of religious moderation (wasatiyyah).
