Abstract

Shark populations, especially in Indonesia, are threatened with extinction. Based on data from WWF Indonesia, there are at least 10 million sharks caught in Indonesian waters every year for commercial purposes. Sharks protection activities are shark conservation activities not only related to environmental problems that exist globally. Until now, there is still no specific government regulation on the protection of sharks in Indonesian marine waters. In this paper, the author will discuss efforts to protect the extinction status of sharks in Indonesia. Shark protection efforts must be carried out properly through existing government policies on both conservation and shark fishing. The purpose of protecting the extinction status of the sharks is so that sharks are not endangered and their sustainability is maintained. The method used in this paper is to use a literature study. Thus, conservation efforts through regulatory approaches and conservation efforts have not been effectively carried out. The government can determine which areas should be the main concern for the protection of this shark species. So that conservation efforts get optimal results.
