The Banggai Cardinal Fish (Pterapogon kauderni) which has the area name “Ikan Capungan Banggai” is one of the ornamental fish with a high interest. This species is an endemic fish that is only found in the Banggai Islands, Central Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the morphology and characteristics of its life, the condition of its population in the current era and the market’s interest in this fish. The method used is a review of the scientific literature of related previous studies. The results of a study that has been carried out by the Banggai Capungan Fish are fish that are in demand by national to international markets. The Banggai Capungan Fish that are traded are still predominantly caught directly from nature which results in this fish being threatened with extinction and has a limited protection status, so cultivation efforts are needed to preserve its population.
