<![CDATA[This study examines the contestation of spatial governance between the governmentand fishvendors (streetvendors/PKL) in the Kelapa Lima Tourism Park Area, Kupang City. The development of coastalareas as tourism space softencreat estensions with the economic activities of local communities that existedprior to the development. This study aims to analyze the contestation of spatial governance and the responses and spatial meanings constructed by fish vendors toward the area development policy. This research employed a qualita tiveapproa chusing a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The informants consisted of government agencies, fishvendors, vendor associations, local communities, and other relevant stakeholders. Data were analyzedusing the Miles and Huberman interactive model and interpreted through Henri Lefebvre’sTheory of the Production of Space, which includes spatial practice, conceived space, and lived space.The findings reveal that spatial contestation occurs due to differing interests between the government and fishvendors in the utilization of space. The government produces space through planning, regulations, and infrastructure development, while fish vendors utilize space based on economic needs and accessibility. The relocation site providedby the governmentwas perceived as lessstrategic, leading many vendors to continueselling in areasthat are moreaccessible to customers. This situation generated responses in the form of resistance and spatial adaptation as vendorssought to maintain their livelihoods. The study concludesthat the mismatch between planned space and the socio-economic needs of the communityis the primary factor driving spatial contestation in the Kelapa Lima Tourism Park Area.]]>
