<![CDATA[Development through National Strategic Projects (PSN) not only impacts economic growth and infrastructure provision but also has implications for the social lives of local communities in affected areas. This article aims to analyze how the implementation of NSPs is associated with the transformation of local communities’ identities as well as changes in socio-religious behavior in two case studies of development-transformed areas in South Sulawesi: the Makassar New Port and the Bantaeng Industrial Zone (KIBA). This study employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, drawing data from accredited journal articles, policy reports, and academic publications from the past decade. The data were analyzed using content analysis and interpreted through Stuart Hall’s framework of identity, Anthony Giddens’s theory of structuration, and Max Weber’s concept of rationalization. The results of the synthesis indicate that the implementation of these two PSNs is associated with a shift in community identity from a subsistence-communal basis toward a market-service basis, as well as a change in the form of religiosity from a communal-integrative character to one that is more individualistic and adaptive to the rhythm of industrial work, without eliminating religion’s function as a source of solidarity. At the same time, local communities are not entirely passive; they exhibit patterns of economic adaptation that go hand in hand with symbolic-cultural resistance in the form of strengthening traditions and revitalizing collective religious practices. This article contributes by offering a conceptual model of two-way identity negotiation in the context of National Strategic Projects in Indonesia and underscores the importance of incorporating socio-religious dimensions into the evaluation of the impacts of large-scale development.]]>
