Abstract

Traditional rituals are an important part of local wisdom that not only represents cultural heritage but also embodies religious and social values that contribute to community life. Amid modernization and environmental changes, the existence of local traditions such as the Nede Ritual is important to examine in order to understand their underlying values and continuity within the community. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Nede Ritual, identify the local wisdom values embedded in it, and examine its existence in the social life of the people of Senyiur Village, Keruak District, East Lombok Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with informants selected through purposive sampling, consisting of customary leaders, religious leaders, community elders, and residents involved in the Nede Ritual. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the Nede Ritual consists of a series of activities that integrate customary practices with Islamic teachings, from spiritual preparation to collective prayers and communal meals. The ritual embodies religious values, mutual cooperation, social solidarity, togetherness, gratitude, environmental awareness, and respect for ancestral cultural heritage. Its continued existence is supported by community participation and the roles of customary and religious leaders in transmitting and preserving the tradition. Thus, the Nede Ritual functions not only as a spiritual effort to pray for rain but also as a medium for strengthening social solidarity and preserving the cultural identity of the Senyiur Village community.
