Plasmodium falciparum has the ability to develop resistence to anti-malarial drugsthrough mutations at some genes, including Plasmodium falciparum multi-drug resistanceprotein 1 (Pfmdr1). Pfmdr1 mutations might occur at some codon positions, includingposition 1246 in which aspartatic acid is changed into tyrosine. It is suggested that themutant allele, 1246Y, is related to treatment failures with amodiaquine, an anti-malarialdrug. The aim of this research is to analyse the mutation of Pmdr1 1246 in malaria patients who will receive treatment with combination of artesunate-amodiquine (AS-AQ). From 18samples, none has the allele of 1246 Y. Follow up to the patients until day 28 shows thatAS-AQ is clinically effective to treat malaria.
