Abstract

Media Virtual Laboratory (Lab-Vir) is one solution to the limitations of laboratory facilities and infrastructure. Through laboratory activities, a variety of skills can be developed one of which is the critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the effect of learning using Lab-Vir against media critical thinking skills of students in the subject of experimental physics at the Department of Physics Education Teacher Training and Education Faculty of the University of Papua. Media Lab-Vir used consisted of modern physics experiments material includes determiningthe ratio e per m, Millikan oil drop, and the activity of radioactive substances. The method used is explanatory associative causal relationship between the variables. Subject of the study consisted of 11 students who programmed the course of physics experiments in the second semester 2015/2016. Data collection techniques using student worksheets that contain indicators of critical thinking skills are classifying, assume, predict, hypothesizes, analyze, summarize and evaluate the implementation and assessment questionnaires filled out by students learning at the end of the lesson. The results obtained by the average percentage of students' critical thinking skills 70.2% ± SD 11.1 or that are in both categories and the assessment of learning using Lab-Vir media obtained by percentage of 81.63% ± SD 6.59 or are in the category of very good. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by using test Somers' d obtained value d = 0.763, p = 0.000 which shows that there is a significant relationship between the use Lab-Virwith the critical thinking skills of students.
