<![CDATA[This article aims to analyze the challenges of fulfilling child support obligations after divorce within matrilineal families in Tanah Datar, West Sumatra. The study employs a qualitative approach with an exploratory narrative design to explore the experiences and perspectives of informants, including divorced mothers with child custody, as well as local customary leaders and legal experts. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation, and then analyzed thematically to identify patterns relevant to the research objectives. The findings reveal that the Minangkabau matrilineal kinship system significantly influences the fulfillment of child support obligations after divorce, with the mother's family playing a more dominant role in child care. Factors such as the father's economic inability, distrust of the ex-wife in managing child support, and modern socio-economic dynamics are the main reasons for the father's failure to fulfill his support obligations. The discussion highlights the importance of an approach that considers Islamic law, Minangkabau customs, and socio-economic conditions in fulfilling child rights after divorce. This study also provides policy recommendations to enhance the system of fulfilling child support obligations in societies that adhere to a matrilineal kinship system, ensuring that children's rights are fairly met in accordance with applicable laws and customs.]]>
