Abstract

Nutritional status among university students remains a common problem, with both undernutrition and overnutrition. Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indicator used to assess a person's nutritional status based on the ratio of weight to height. Stress levels are suspected to be a factor influencing nutritional status through changes in diet and lifestyle, especially among students living in dormitories. This study aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and Body Mass Index (BMI) among students in East Kalimantan dormitories in Yogyakarta. This study is a quantitative study with an observational analytical design using a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the East Kalimantan Dormitory in Yogyakarta in May 2026, involving 34 students who selected using a purposive sampling technique. Stress level data was obtained using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) questionnaire, while BMI data was obtained through weight and height measurements, and BMI calculation. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a p-value <0.05. The results showed that the average stress score of respondents was 23.5, and the majority of respondents had very severe stress (85.29%). The average BMI of respondents was 21.66 kg/m², and more than half of respondents had normal nutritional status (58.82%). There was no significant relationship between stress levels and BMI among students at the East Kalimantan Dormitory in Yogyakarta (r = 0.2262 and p = 0.1982)
