<![CDATA[Child care in fishing communities is closely related to economic conditions, traditions related to the sea, as well as patterns of life and cooperation between family members and residents in coastal areas. This study aims to explain how fishing families in Gandoriah Beach, Pariaman take care of their children and understand their changing views on important things for children's future due to the influence of modernization. A descriptive qualitative method was used in this study, which included in-depth interviews with fishermen and their wives and children, community leaders, and junior high school teachers in the Gandoriah Beach area. The results of the study show that most parents apply a democratic approach in parenting. This parenting style involves flexibility in discipline and involvement of children in fisheries activities as a means to introduce a work culture. Nevertheless, children are not forced to make the fishing profession their job in the future. The primary role in day-to-day care is usually carried out by the mother, but supervision of the child also involves the collective support of family members, friends, and the surrounding community. Modernization, the development of formal education, and the use of digital devices have begun to change the aspirations and patterns of interaction of fisher children with their environment. This has an impact on reducing the number of young generations who choose to continue the traditional fishing profession. These findings reinforce the idea that child-rearing patterns in coastal areas are dynamic processes influenced both by local community traditions and by the impact of broader social and economic changes.]]>
