Black tea kombucha is a fermented tea product containing various bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, vitamins, organic acids, and antioxidants that may support hair health. The utilization of kombucha as an active ingredient in cosmetic preparations, particularly hair serum, remains limited and requires further formulation development and quality evaluation. This study aimed to formulate black tea kombucha into a hair serum preparation and evaluate the effect of different kombucha concentrations on its physical characteristics. An experimental method was employed using four formulations, namely a control formula (F0) and formulas containing black tea kombucha at concentrations of 5% (F1), 10% (F2), and 15% (F3). Physical evaluations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and specific gravity tests. The results showed that all formulations were homogeneous and met the required standards for viscosity and specific gravity. The pH values of F0, F1, F2, and F3 were 5.426, 4.706, 4.486, and 4.026, respectively. Increasing kombucha concentration decreased the pH while increasing the viscosity and specific gravity of the preparations. Based on the physical evaluation results, F1 containing 5% black tea kombucha was identified as the best formulation because it fulfilled all quality parameters of hair serum preparations. Therefore, black tea kombucha has potential as an active ingredient in hair serum formulations.
