Abstract

Black tea kombucha is a fermented tea product containing various bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, vitamins, organic acids, and antioxidants that may support hair health. The utilization of kombucha as an active ingredient in cosmetic preparations, particularly hair serum, remains limited and requires further formulation development and quality evaluation. This study aimed to formulate black tea kombucha into a hair serum preparation and evaluate the effect of different kombucha concentrations on its physical characteristics. An experimental method was employed using four formulations, namely a control formula (F0) and formulas containing black tea kombucha at concentrations of 5% (F1), 10% (F2), and 15% (F3). Physical evaluations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and specific gravity tests. The results showed that all formulations were homogeneous and met the required standards for viscosity and specific gravity. The pH values of F0, F1, F2, and F3 were 5.426, 4.706, 4.486, and 4.026, respectively. Increasing kombucha concentration decreased the pH while increasing the viscosity and specific gravity of the preparations. Based on the physical evaluation results, F1 containing 5% black tea kombucha was identified as the best formulation because it fulfilled all quality parameters of hair serum preparations. Therefore, black tea kombucha has potential as an active ingredient in hair serum formulations.

Abstract

Technological advancements are no longer confined to a local scale, they have reached global dimensions with a far reaching scope. Information technology developers are currently driving this progress by rapidly creating precise, innovative solutions. Jobina Kitchen is a popular bakery in Padang, known for its delicious and visually appealing cakes and pastries. However, the business currently faces challenges regarding sales promotion, customer data management, and manual transaction recording. These issues complicate the processes of tracking transaction history and monitoring customer activity, resulting in time-consuming and inefficient operations. This study aims to design an e-commerce system using PHP and MySQL, incorporating Customer Relationship Management (CRM) principles to facilitate electronic customer transaction management. Data was gathered through direct observation at Jobina Kitchen, management interviews, and documentation of requirements. The study employs a case study method within a Software Engineering Research (SER) framework. The results demonstrate that the developed e-commerce system successfully integrates customer data management, transaction recording, and electronic storage of transaction history. Implementing this system can enhance service quality and expand Jobina Kitchen's sales reach, thereby increasing its competitiveness in the digital market.

Abstract

Water pollution caused by synthetic dyes, particularly methylene blue, has become a significant environmental concern due to its persistence and potential toxicity to aquatic ecosystems. The utilization of coconut pulp (Cocos nucifera L.) waste as a precursor for adsorbent production represents a promising alternative because of its abundant availability, low cost, and high carbon content, which enable the production of an effective and environmentally friendly adsorbent. This study aimed to investigate the effect of contact time and the adsorption kinetics of methylene blue using carbon derived from coconut pulp waste. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted using 0.2 g of adsorbent in 20 mL of a 50ppm methylene blue solution. The adsorption kinetics were evaluated using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. FTIR characterization confirmed the presence of characteristic functional groups in the coconut pulp-derived carbon. The adsorption process exhibited increasing adsorption capacity and removal efficiency with increasing contact time until equilibrium was reached, with maximum values of 3.63 mg g⁻¹ and 72.78%, respectively. Kinetic analysis revealed that the adsorption process was better described by the pseudo-second-order model than by the pseudo-first-order model, as indicated by a higher coefficient of determination (R² = 0.9858) and an adsorption rate constant (k₂) of 1.04 × 10⁻¹ g mg⁻¹ min⁻¹. These findings demonstrate that carbon derived from coconut pulp waste has considerable potential as an effective, economical, and sustainable alternative adsorbent for the treatment of dye-containing wastewater.

Abstract

Free radicals are one of the main causes of cell damage that triggers various chronic diseases, so the use of natural antioxidants from the monoterpenoid group of tropical plants continues to be developed. This study aims to evaluate the chemical reactivity, kinetic stability, and theoretical free radical scavenging capacity of three monoterpenoid compounds (Eugenol, Menthol, and Thymol) compared with Ascorbic Acid as a positive control. The method used is computational chemistry simulation based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) with the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory. The global quantum descriptor parameters analyzed include HOMO energy (EHOMO), LUMO energy (ELUMO), energy gap (ΔEgap) and global electrophilicity index (ω), which are supported by Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) mapping. The results of computational calculations show that Eugenol has the highest EHOMO value (-5,539412 eV) and the smallest ΔEgap of 4,721751 eV. This indicates that Eugenol is kinetically the most reactive and most easily species compared to Thymol (-5,973139 eV), Ascorbic Acid (-6,424009 Ev), and Menthol (-6,424009 eV). The presence of aromatic rings and delocalized (π) electron systems in Eugenol has been shown to stabilize phenoxyl radicals through resonance effects. MEP visualization confirms the presence of electron-rich nucleophilic active centers (dark red) around the oxygen atoms of the hydroxyl (-OH) and methoxy (OCH3) groups that are ready to interact via a hydrogen atom transfer mechanism. In contrast, Menthol shows the lowest efficiency (ΔEgap= 6,499870 eV) because its structure is saturated without conjugation (π). This theoretical study provides a fundamental basis that phenolic functional groups and conjugated systems are crucial in predicting the in silico antioxidant activity of monoterpenoids.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is a plantation crop that generates large quantities of leaf waste which remains underutilized, despite containing secondary metabolites such as flavonoids and phenolics that possess potential antioxidant activity. This study aimed to formulate an ethanolic extract of oil palm leaves into a hair serum and to evaluate its physical quality and antioxidant activity. Extraction was performed using the maceration method with ethanol as the solvent. The resulting extract was then formulated into hair serums at various concentrations. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method, with IC₅₀ values determined via a microplate reader. The results demonstrated that the ethanolic extract of oil palm leaves could be formulated into a hair serum meeting physical evaluation standards; the product was homogeneous, had a pH within the skin's physiological range (4.5–6.5), exhibited good spreadability, and remained stable during storage. Antioxidant activity tests revealed that the hair serum formulations possessed antioxidant properties, with IC₅₀ values of 274.316 ppm (F1, classified as very weak), 114.126 ppm (F2, classified as moderate), and 93.675 ppm (F3, classified as strong). It can be concluded that the ethanolic extract of oil palm leaves has the potential to be developed as a natural active ingredient in antioxidant hair serums.
