<![CDATA[The involvement of academics in the democratic process is a form of community service that aligns with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This article discusses the role of an accounting lecturer at Widya Karya Catholic University of Malang as a panelist in the Public Debate for Candidates for Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Malang in 2024, held on September 23, 2024, at Grand Mercure Hotel, Malang. This activity aims to provide academic contributions to a quality democratic process, formulate themes and strategic questions, and help the public understand the visions and missions of regional leadership candidates. The implementation methods include theme formulation, question preparation, execution of the panelist role, and maintaining objectivity during the debate. The results show that the role of expert panelists positively impacts the public by providing comprehensive information about candidates, assists organizers in conducting structured debates, and enhances the university's image as an institution actively contributing to national and state life. This article recommends strengthening the role of academics in various public forums to support smarter and more rational public decision-making.]]>
