Renewal or in other terms better known as the word tajdid, can be interpreted as a movement carried out by one or more people with the aim of reforming a religious teaching in order to restore the purity of religious teachings without having to close their eyes to the times. Islamic renewal aims to restore the purity of Islamic teachings by adapting them to the times. Islamic renewal is carried out not only to fulfill the interests of this group of people, but also aims to make Islam not left behind in the field of science and to restore the essence of Islam which has been lost due to being eroded by the deviant cultures, habits and thinking of society. This paper aims to discuss the history of Islamic renewal in the 19th century, as well as figures who carried out reforms to the Islamic world whose benefits continue to this day. This article will bring readers to know more about Islamic renewal in the 19th century.
