The latest halal logo was officially launched by the government-appointed agency, BPJPH, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The logo is considered not to convey the impression of Islamic values because its shape emphasizes the wayang gunungan symbol and surjan or lurik cloth, in contrast to the previous logo with Arabic script Naskhi with a circular shape. The authority accumulated by the logo replacement is considered not to meet the requirements for writing Arabic script, and in terms of organizational coordination, it is considered to have overstepped the authority of the MUI as the sole and primary authority in issuing fatwas on the halal or haram status of all kinds of products or services in society. The purpose of this study is to achieve clarity in the communication of the signifiers and markers of the meaning of the new logo by conducting an in-depth study of the basic material of the gunungan values presented by the entity of wayang and Javanese philosophy. The researcher found that the values of Sufism in Islamic spiritual practices and Javanese philosophy become contrasting and full of polemics when there is no research that clarifies the value of the meaning of the new logo. The method used is descriptive qualitative observation of the object and its comparison with similar objects. Pierce's visual semiotic method and William James' experience of mysticism as spiritual pragmatism are the researcher's references, apart from references to local wisdom of spirituality in wayang’s values. Keywords: logo, halal, mistism, wayang, sufism
