<![CDATA[Illegal Gold Mining (PETI) is one of the serious problems occurring in various regions of Indonesia, including Sarolangun Regency, Jambi Province. These illegal mining activities not only cause environmental damage but also create various social and economic problems within the community. This study aims to analyze the role of the local government in controlling Illegal Gold Mining (PETI) activities in Sarolangun Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation involving informants from government institutions, law enforcement agencies, and communities living around the mining areas. The analysis of this study applies the theory of government roles proposed by Iyas Yusuf, which includes the roles as regulator, dynamizer, and facilitator. The results of the study indicate that the local government has undertaken several efforts to control PETI activities through law enforcement against illegal mining actors, public socialization regarding the negative impacts of mining activities, and rehabilitation programs for former mining lands. However, these efforts still face several challenges, such as limited supervision, the community's economic dependence on mining activities, and indications of involvement of certain individuals who provide protection for PETI activities. Therefore, more comprehensive policies are needed through strengthening local regulations, improving supervision, and developing alternative livelihoods for communities so that the control of illegal mining activities can be carried out more effectively and sustainably.]]>
