This study aims to examine the concept of religious tolerance from a Qur’anic perspective and analyze its implications for Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This study employs a library research method using the thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhu’i) approach. Data were obtained from the Qur’an, classical and contemporary tafsir literature, scholarly books, journal articles, and other relevant academic sources. Data were analyzed using content analysis to identify, interpret, and synthesize Qur’anic values related to religious tolerance, particularly those contained in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 256, Surah Al-Kafirun verse 6, and Surah Al-Mumtahanah verse 8. The findings indicate that religious tolerance in the Qur’an is based on three interconnected principles: freedom of religion, respect for differences in faith, and justice and good social relations with others. These principles demonstrate that tolerance in Islam does not imply mixing religious beliefs or compromising faith, but rather respecting differences while maintaining religious identity and promoting peaceful social relations. The study further finds that these Qur’anic values are highly relevant to PAI as a means of developing students’ religious character, moderation, respect for diversity, and social responsibility. However, their implementation requires contextual, dialogical, and adaptive learning approaches to address narrow and exclusive religious interpretations. This study contributes to strengthening the conceptual foundation for integrating Qur’anic values of tolerance into contemporary PAI.
