Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis remains a public health issue requiring efforts to prevent transmission by enhancing patient knowledge. Health education utilizing audiovisual media can help convey information in an engaging and easily understandable manner. This study aimed to determine changes in pulmonary tuberculosis patients' knowledge regarding transmission prevention following health education delivered via audiovisual media. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was employed. The sample consisted of 52 pulmonary tuberculosis patients from the Krui Community Health Center (Puskesmas) service area, selected using total sampling. Knowledge data were collected using a validated and reliable 30-item questionnaire and subsequently analyzed through univariate and bivariate methods using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Prior to the intervention, the majority of respondents (n=30; 57.7%) possessed "fair" knowledge, whereas post-education, the majority (n=45; 86.5%) demonstrated "good" knowledge. The median knowledge score increased from 12 to 18, showing a statistically significant difference between pre- and post-education scores (p=0.001). Health education using audiovisual media is associated with increased knowledge among pulmonary tuberculosis patients regarding transmission prevention. These findings indicate that audiovisual media holds potential as an alternative educational tool to support health promotion for pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
