Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global health concern with a rising prevalence. Chronic kidney disease (CKD), affecting up to 40% of DM patients, is a severe complication. Mangosteen rind extract (MRE), containing bioactive compounds such as xanthone and α-mangostin, exhibits antidiabetic and nephroprotective potential, enhanced through microemulsion formulations that improve solubility, stability, and bioavailability. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of microemulsions containing MRE as antidiabetic and nephroprotective agents.Method: Microemulsion formulations were evaluated for organoleptic properties, pH, viscosity, homogeneity, and particle size. Effectiveness testing was conducted on male Wistar rats divided into five groups: a negative control, a positive control, and three treatment groups receiving MRE doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kgBW. Blood glucose levels and nephroprotective parameters were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and LSD post hoc tests (p>0.05).Results: The microemulsion met physical criteria, including optimal pH, stable viscosity, good homogeneity, and appropriate particle size. MRE significantly reduced blood glucose levels and improved kidney function, with the 100 mg/kgBW dose being most effective. Conclusion: MRE microemulsions are effective in lowering blood glucose levels and providing nephroprotective benefits, offering potential therapy for DM and diabetic nephropathy.
