This study was motivated by the low level of mathematical problem-solving skills among elementary school students and the limited use of active learning models and instructional media. This quantitative research employed a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design to examine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning model assisted by Modified Congklak media on the mathematical problem-solving skills of fourth-grade students at SDN 1 Nagri Kidul. The sample consisted of 54 students divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and then analyzed using prerequisite tests and simple linear regression analysis. The results indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The Problem-Based Learning model assisted by Modified Congklak media made a significant contribution of 55.4% to the improvement of students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. It can be concluded that this model is an effective alternative strategy for mathematics instruction in elementary schools.
