The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly generative image technology, has created significant legal challenges within the copyright regime. AI systems are now capable of producing visual works that resemble existing copyrighted creations, raising legal questions regarding authorship, ownership, originality, and the protection of economic rights. AI-generated works and the use of copyrighted content as training datasets are not specifically regulated by Indonesian copyright law, Law Number 28 of 2014 on Copyright, which is still predicated on the idea of human authorship. This study aims to analyze the legal status of AI-generated works under Indonesian copyright law and identify regulatory gaps that potentially weaken the protection of copyright holders' economic rights. This study uses statutory, conceptual, and case techniques to conduct normative legal research. The "Ghibli AI Trend" is used as a case study to illustrate the legal issues surrounding AI-generated visual works. The findings indicate that Indonesian copyright law has not adequately addressed issues concerning AI-generated works, including authorship, ownership, training data, and liability. This study uses statutory, conceptual, and case techniques to conduct normative legal research. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence; copyright; economic rights; generative image; regulatory gap.
